The AMD Athlon clocked at 700 MHz and featuring the 0.25 µm process was launched on October 4th. This engineering sample was produced in early August. Some weeks after the official introduction of this CPU, AMD launched the thunderbird core (0.18 µm) process. By the way, the Athlon "classic" ramped up to 1 GHz.
