This particular Intel Timna engineering sample is a 667 MHz prototype produced in week 12 of 2000, which places it in March 2000. As one of the rare surviving Timna samples, it represents Intel’s cancelled low-cost integrated CPU project at a relatively advanced stage of development, when the processor was being prepared for its intended market debut. Timna was originally planned for release in 2000, with reports at the time pointing to an initial first-half or second-half 2000 launch window before technical problems forced a delay to the first quarter of 2001; the project was then cancelled before reaching production. For collectors, this makes the chip especially significant, as it captures a moment when Intel was still actively moving Timna toward release on its unusual Socket 370S platform.
