After Intel cancelled his cross-license agreement in 1987, AMD started a long R&D process to reverse-engineer the Intel 386. The Am386DX, first CPU based on this work was released in March 1991, followed one year later by the Am386SX. This sample is clocked at 33 MHz and was built in November 1990. It is pin compatible and 100% software compatible with Intel 386DX (32 bit data bus).
